Book Club

Our Book Club program, is a wonderful journey into the world of reading and critical thinking! Our program is designed to encourage young kids to embrace the joys of reading while nurturing their analytical and critical thinking skills. With the support of our local organization, Read2Rise, we are dedicated to fostering a love for books and empowering young minds to become lifelong learners.

The Read2Rise Book Club is open to kids aged 8 to 12, and it operates over the course of 10 weeks. During this time, we will explore various genres, embark on exciting literary adventures, and engage in thought-provoking discussions. Each week, participants will read a selected book and gather for interactive sessions where they can share their thoughts and insights.

we'll introduce the Book Club and its goals. To build a positive, inclusive environment, we'll engage in icebreaker activities that allow the kids to get to know each other and form new friendships.

we'll focus on a different literary genre each time, such as fantasy, mystery, adventure, or historical fiction. Participants will read books representing these genres and come together to discuss the unique elements and themes found within them. we'll host engaging workshops that encourage critical thinking. Participants will learn how to analyze character motivations, explore alternative story endings, and understand the author's purpose. We'll encourage them to express their opinions and back them up with evidence from the text.

During these sessions, we'll highlight different authors and their works. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain insights into the creative process behind the books they've read, fostering a deeper appreciation for the authors' craft. The final week will be a special one. Each participant will choose their favorite book from the program and present a brief review to the group. We'll celebrate the journey we've taken together, recognizing each child's unique reading experiences and growth.

We are immensely grateful for our partnership with Read2Rise, a non-profit organization founded by Summer Sun (a former high school but present Harvard student) and dedicated to promoting literacy and educational opportunities for children. Their support allows us to provide each participant with a free book at the beginning of the program, fostering accessibility and a sense of ownership over their reading journey.

Through their involvement in the Book Club, kids will experience several benefits. Engaging in lively discussions and analysis of the books will help them think critically and develop their own unique perspectives. Reading a diverse range of books and discussing them with peers will strengthen their reading comprehension abilities. Moreover, the club provides a platform for kids to connect with others who share their passion for reading, fostering friendships and a sense of community.

This program is more than just a reading program; it's a platform for young minds to explore new worlds, expand their horizons, and sharpen their critical thinking abilities. We hope this journey will inspire a lifelong love for reading and empower participants to approach challenges with an open mind and inquisitive spirit. Together with Read2Rise and many donors from around the world, such as the GYP Debate Club led by Ryan Li, let's embark on this exciting adventure of learning and growth!
